PORT- Peer Led Overdose Response Team

Peer Overdose Response Team

When someone experiences an overdose, what they often need most is understanding, support, and hope from someone who truly gets it. That’s why Serenity House Communities created PORT – the Peer Overdose Response Team. Unlike traditional crisis-based models, PORT is developed, managed, and led entirely by individuals with lived experience of substance use and overdose. This unique, peer-driven approach allows us to connect on a deeper level—offering trust, empathy, and empowerment to those navigating one of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.

Serenity House Communities, post-overdose support in Flint, PORT program in Genesee County.

What Makes PORT Different

  •  Peer-Led & Person-Centered: Our team is made up of trained peer coaches who’ve walked the path of recovery themselves. We don’t show up with judgment—we show up with connection.
  • Support, Not Crisis Response: We meet individuals where they are—not in a high-pressure or clinical mode, but with calm, steady presence. PORT provides timely, compassionate outreach after an overdose has occurred, with space for conversation, healing, and choice.
  •  Built on Trust: We know that healing doesn’t happen in a vacuum—it happens in community. That’s why our peers offer consistent follow-up, guidance, and resource navigation based on real-life understanding.

Services offered by PORT in FLINT, Naloxone, transportation, peer-led follow-up after overdose.

  • Recovery Self-Care Bags: Supplying Narcan, fentanyl test strips, and hygiene products to survivors.

Why It Matters

An overdose doesn’t define someone—it’s a moment. And in that moment, someone with lived experience can be the bridge between despair and possibility. PORT exists to hold space, offer hope, and help individuals move toward lasting recovery.
